Indonesia’s cement market continues to expand, according to official Indonesian cement industry statistics. In addition, the country is shipping increasing volumes of clinker although cement exports have fallen.
In May demand reached 5,133,863t, up three per cent YoY. Cement exports rose 18.3 per cent YoY and clinker exports doubled to 114,000t during the period. Total domestic output reached 5.305Mt, a rise of 5.4 per cent when compared with May 2015. Semen Indonesia, the country’s largest cement producer, saw domestic sales rise by 6.7 per cent to 2.114Mt, but exports dropped 21.3 per cent to 38,000t.
In the year to date, domestic cement consumption increased 2.3 per cent to 24,370,841t. Sales were up in all regions, except for Kalimantan and Yogyakarta. Cement exports fell 25.5 per cent to 152,498t while clinker exports doubled to 329,449t. Total production from Indonesia’s cement manufacturers edge up by 3.4 per cent to 24.852Mt. Semen Indonesia note a one per cent increase in domestic sales to 10.0134Mt, but exports dropped 27.5 per cent to 133,000t.
