Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algérie (GICA) has set, for the second year running, a new production record. In 2016 the company produced 12.6Mt of cement, up four per cent YoY from 12.14Mt in 2015.
While claiming that the cement volumes of the group’s 12 cement plants have been fully sold on the market, the cement group stresses that its main objective is to "actively contribute to closing the cement deficit estimated at 4Mta, in a context marked by large public investments in the housing and infrastructure sectors ".
For 2017 GICA aims to produce 13.2Mt as it brings the second production line at Aïn El Kebira, Sétif, online. In the next two years, the state-owned company plans to commission two further cement plants at Béchar and Oum El Bouaghi with production capacities of 1Mta and 2Mta, respectively. The group has set a production target of nearly 20Mt by 2019.
