CalPortland’s Rillito and Oro Grande cement plants have earned the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Energy Star certification, which signifies that the industrial plants perform in the top 25 per cent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

This is the sixth year the CalPortland Rillito cement plant has earned Energy Star certification. The Oro Grande cement plant has earned its first Energy Star certification since recently being acquired by CalPortland in 2015.

“CalPortland is proud to accept EPA’s Energy Star certification in recognition of our energy efficiency efforts,” said Allen Hamblen, president/CEO CalPortland. “CalPortland takes great pride in our partnership with Energy Star which is proven through the dedication of our employees who are proud to participate in programs that improve our energy efficiency, reduce emissions and contribute to protecting our environment.”

Earning Energy Star certification highlights Rillito’s and Oro Grande’s status within the top 25 per cent of cement plants. The plants improved their energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organisation and by making cost-effective improvements to both plants.

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s industrial facilities is critical to protecting our environment, “said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the Energy Star Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the plant floor to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their facilities more efficient and earning EPA’s Energy Star certification.”
