Bundeskartellamt: low number of suppliers in Germany’s cement sector

The German competition authority, Bundeskartellamt, has complained about the low number of suppliers in the German cement industry.

“Therefore, we will continue to deal intensively with this industry and, for example, examine suspicious corporate interdependencies and, if necessary, dissolve them,” said Andreas Mundt, chairman of the Board. According to the agency, the industry is spending more than EUR5bn annually.

Since the launch of the sectoral investigation at the end of 2013, 24 industrial associations had been voluntarily disbanded by industry.
