Negeri Sembilan Cement Industries Sdn Bhd (NSCI), owned by Cement Industries Malaysia Bhd, has agreed with Indonesian utility giant Tenega Nasional Bhd (TNB) to a joint venture that would see waste heat from the cement plants used in the generation of electricity.
TNB subsidiary TNB Repair and Maintenance Sdn Bhd will develop, operate and raise financing for the waste heat recovery (WHR) plant, which represents an investment of MYR200m (US$47.5m). The WHR unit will have a combined power generation capacity of 23MW by recovering waste heat from NSCI’s cement plants at Bukit Keteri, Perlis, and Bahau, Negeri Sembilan. It is expected that the project will reduce NSCI’s power costs by 9-12 per cent.
