Meixcan cement producer Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) received regulatory approval for the purchase of the 0.315Mta Trident cement plant in Three Forks, Montana, USA, from CRH, as well as the sale of its ready-mix concrete operations and transportation assets in Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Following the transaction GCC owns eight cement plants in the US and Mexico, with a total production capacity of 5.4Mta. In addition, the company expects to commission the expansion of its cement plant in Rapid City, South Dakota in the second half of this year. This will increase the company’s total production capacity to 5.8Mta.
GCC explained that CRH will also acquire most of the ready-mix concrete plants and transport assets belonging to GCC in Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. However, it will continue to own and operate four ready-mix concrete plants in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area, and will own an office building in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which will be leased to CRH.
Both transactions are expected to close before the end of June, subject to compliance with certain legal conditions.
