Cameroon's Mira Cement, a new entry to the market, has announced a project to construct a 1Mta plant in Douala.
Meanwhile, all of the country's four main producers have plans to expand their production in the coming years, according to The Africa Report.
Cimencam began constructing a 0.5Mta facility at Nomayos, outside of Yaoundé, in March. Cimaf Cameroun is set to triple its current 0.5Mta capacity this year, while Dangote Cement Cameroon is planning a new plant in Yaoundé. Finally, Medcem plans to increase capacity at its plant to 1Mta from 0.6mta. If these projects are realised, the country could reach a 9Mta capacity within a few years and begin exporting to neighbouring countries.
Price increase
Prices have recently increased by XOF200 (US$0.35), with Cimencap CPJ35 selling for XOF4200 in Douala in June.
However, the government is currently seeking a developer for a limestone deposit in Mintom, southern Cameroon, which would lower prices of locally produced cement.
