Colombia-based Molienda de la Sabana SAS (Molsabana) has signed a contract with Ibines Férreo, which will transport 320t of its cement every fortnight via the Bogotá-Belencito rail corridor.
Molsabana owns a cement operation in Tocancipá, Cundinamarca and produces cement under the brand Fortecem. Established in 2013, the Tocancipá works is the successor to the 0.6Mta Sabanagranda works, whivh opened in 2004. This followed the commissioning of the 0.3Mta Betania works in 2000 and the acquisition of the former Hércules white cement plant at San Gil from the Santacoloma family in the previous year.
The corridor has not transported cargo since 2010 but is able to transport around 1.5Mta. It has a 318.3km extension and runs from Facatativá via Bogotá to Belencito and includes the La Caro Zipaquirá branch.
