The Wildlife Habitat Council has awarded Cemex Costa Rica with the Conservation Certificate for the company’s support to the El Paso Monkey Biological Corridor.
The project quantified the forest reserves at the quarries of the Colorado plant and obtained an inventory of tree species to identify the most suitable species for the reforestation of a 2ha area.
In addition, the cement producer helped to set up a forest brigade and made an agreement with he National System of Conservation Areas to protect the forest, in particular in terms of forest fires, which are a key threat to local forests. The protection of the forest is important in the conservation of the howler monkey in the area.
