Cemex has filed an appeal for reversal of the Government resolution regarding the cement producer’s exploitation of the Can Negret quarry in Alaró, Spain.
Cemex extracts limestone from the quarry for its Lloseta cement plant and wants to exploit the quarry until 2042 (and to 2072 with an extension) and over an area of 483,734m2. The government has agreed only to a term until 2032 (2037 including the restoration phase) and over an area of 452,621m2. In addition, the extraction volume has been set by Cemex as 12.65Mm3 while the authorities have established a limit of 11.754Mm3.
The government has not yet responded to Cemex’s appeal for reinstatement. If the appeal is rejected, Cemex could file a lawsuit to challenge the decision.
