Cemex USA has purchased a limestone quarry in Chico, 45 miles northwest of Fort Worth in Texas, from Blue Star Materials II. Cemex will use the reserves which are expected to last another 25 years to supply aggregates for roads, bridges, commercial buildings, housing and other building projects in the state of Texas. The quarry covers 122ha.
"The Dallas-Fort Worth area is expected to grow exponentially over the next 30 years," Cemex USA Regional President-Texas and New Mexico, Joel Galassini, said in an announcement. "By acquiring a quarry that's currently-operational, we can start contributing to that growth almost immediately and bring Cemex's strong network along with our expertise to projects in the Metroplex."
Cemex USA President, Ignacio Madridejos, added, "Cemex has a strong aggregates network in Texas which has supplied some of the largest projects in the state. We look forward to bringing our high-quality products to North Texas and working with our customers to build a better future by giving them a reliable source for aggregates for years to come."
Cemex USA has other aggregate operations in the state at Houston, Spring, Katy and the Balcones quarry at the New Braunfels cement plant. The company also has 10 distribution terminals and 30 ready-mix plants in Texas.
