Lafarge (Mauritius) raises price of Baobab cement
04 October 2018

The price of a 25kg bag of Baobab cement increased by MUR1-4 (US¢2.9-11.6) on 1 October 2018. Lafarge (Mauritius), which produces the cement, has reviewed the price of its Baobab range as a result of “increasing international raw material prices since the start of the year.”

Bagged Baobab CEM II 42.5 now costs MUR115, up from MUR114, while Baobab Lakaz CEM II 32.5 cement is sold at MUR110/25kg bag, representing a 3.8 per cent increase from MUR106 before the price rise. However, Baobab 6 MC 22.5 product remains priced at MUR106/25kg bag. Prices for bulk Baobab CEM I 42.5 cement also continue to be steady at MUR4425/t (US$128.03).

The latest price rise is the second implemented by Lafarge (Mauritius) this year. In January, a MUR2.50-4 rise was carried out. Before the increase, Boabab CEM II 42.5 cement cost MUR110/25kg bag, while Baobab Lakaz was sold at MUR103/25kg bag and Baobab 6 at MUR103.50.
