Holcim Süddeutschland plans to use glass waste as alternative raw material in the production of cement at its cement plant in Dotternhausen, Germany.
The cement producer has submitted an application to the local Tübingen for the storage of 625t of glass at the facility. The space will be created in the warehouse that currently stores roofing boards.
The glass waste, which will come from a waste glass processing plant in Bad Wurzach, will be used to substitute clay and will be used at a maximum rate of 0.7tph. It will be delivered to the plant by truck and the company assumes one delivery per day.
In a comparison of emission readings – once with glass combustion and once without the use of glass – results indicated that the levels of carbon monoxide, cadmium, chromium and thallium have decreased but dioxins, furans and lead emissions were up. All measured values are below limits.
