Reports of a major kiln break at McInnis Cement’s Port-Daniel plant have indicated that the plant will see a production stop of 6-7 weeks. However, the company has said that a production stop for maintenance purposes was already scheduled and the break adds only 1-2 weeks to the initial plan.
The break occurred on Thursday but the company has refused to confirm the exact nature of the damaged and the expected cost of repairs remains unknown. "It adds one to two weeks to our already planned stop. The whole plant is not stopped, we continue to grind cement, we continue the distribution. We are just ahead of what was already planned to be able to repair the equipment at the same time. The impact on our business is limited given the timing of our operations in the off-season, " said Maryse Tremblay, the company’s spokesperson.
