After just one year of operations, Chip Mong Insee Cement Corporation (CMIC) has achieved a 26 per cent of market share in Cambodia, company representatives said.

Speaking at the company's one-year anniversary celebration, Aidan Lynam, CEO of CMIC, said the secret to its success is the focus on quality.

"It is estimated that 8Mt of cement are consumed every year [in Cambodia]. After a full year of operations, we are supplying 1.6Mt, roughly 26 per cent of the total supply. Our strategy is not based just on profit. We seek to contribute to economic and social development."

CMIC, a joint venture of local conglomerate Chip Mong Group and Thailand’s Siam City Cement Co, is now one of the biggest cement manufacturers in the country, producing about 1.6Mt last year. The plant, located in Kampot province's Banteay Meas district, can produce up to 5500tpd of high-quality cement, CMIC said.

Aidan Lynam, CEO of CMIC, said the company is committed to driving carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions down by replacing conventional energy sources with biomass-fired and solar energy systems. "We are looking into sustainable waste management solutions and working hard to become net water positive by 2022," added Mr Lynam.
