Lafarge Maldives Cement recently celebrated 20 years of service in the construction industry of the Maldives.

Lafarge Maldives Cement operates a terminal in Thilafushi, Maldives

During this time, the company installed a 9400t cement storage silo in Thilafushi and a 1t jumbo packing machine. Over time, it has introduced 25 and 50kg bagged cement as well as 1t jumbo bags into the Maldives market.

The company has also supported a safety culture in the Maldives by continuously improving health and safety. This year marks the 10th year without a lost-time injury at the cement producer.

The celebrations were also marked by a beach clean-up event at Hulhumale beach as part of its efforts to reduce single-use plastics in the Maldives. In 2017 Lafarge Maldives Cement has worked with Parley for the Oceans and Waste Management Corp to collect single-use plastic waste from remote islands of the archipelago and transporting it for recycling in the Male Industrial Village. Moreover, in November 2018, the company installed a reverse osmosis plant in its Thilafushi terminal and replaced plastic drinking bottles with glass ones.
