The Wyoming Infrastructure Authority (WIA) and the Japan Coal Energy Center have signed an MoU to research solid sorbent capture technology with the twin-goals of reducing emissions and producing cement with inputs from the coal sector.
The research will take CO2 captured from coal-burning power plants and mix it with calcium-containing coal ash and industrial waste to make calcium carbonate (CaCO3) to be used in cement production and ultimately concrete.
The agreement will see Kawasaki Heavy Industries test its solid sorbent capture technology at the Wyoming Integrated Test Center at Cheyenne from 2021.
