Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the US and Puerto Rico amounted to 10.612Mt in October, up 3.5 per cent YoY from the 10.098Mt recorded in October 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Excluding for sales to Puerto Rico and overseas territories, cement consumption in the US rose 3.3 per cent YoY to 10.460Mt, from 10.752Mt a year earlier.

The key producing states for Portland and blended cement were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Alabama and Florida. The key consuming states were, in descending order, Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois.

Masonry cement shipments amounted to 197,000t, down 4.7 per cent YoY, with Florida the leading producer.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, saw a 4.4 per cent YoY decline in October to 6.46Mt.

Hydraulic cement, including white cement, and clinker imports amounted to 1.693Mt in October, down 27.2 per cent YoY. Imported clinker amounted to 83,951t in October, down 11.1 per cent YoY.

In the January to October period, total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the US and Puerto Rico amounted to 88.1Mt, down five per cent YoY. Excluding for sales to Puerto Rico and overseas territories, cement consumption in the US fell 4.5 per cent YoY to 87.155Mt.

Masonry cement shipments amounted to 1.88Mt, down 4.7 per cent YoY.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, amounted to 59.2Mt, down 6.8 per cent YoY.

Hydraulic cement, including white cement, and clinker imports amounted to 21.258Mt, a decline of 5.4 per cent YoY from January-October 2023. Turkey was the key source of imports, followed by Canada and Vietnam. Imported clinker amounted to 797,071t in January-October. Canada was the key source of clinker to the US, accounting for 393,417t.
