An application by Cemminerals NV (Belgium) to build a vertical roller mill for grinding granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) at Newport Docks, UK, is awaiting final approval after receiving validation from Newport Planning Committee.
Initially the proposed facility, which will be equipped with silos and pneumatic unloading, will see the import and distribution of 100,000tpa of cementitious materials. Additionally the plans include the construction of a substation and potential hydrogen storage for future use to reduce emissions.
After a minimum of 12 months, the facility will become fully operational as it scales up raw material imports to an estimated 1Mta.
The facility would run within an 18h daily operational window, although 24/7 for deliveries. It is expected to create 25 full-time equivalent jobs across operations.
