Hope Construction Materials signs transport services contract with DB Schenker Rail UK

Hope Construction Materials and DB Schenker Rail UK have have signed a five-year partnership contract for transport services. The agreement covers the transport of aggregates from the quarry at Dowlow near Buxton in the UK to 10 locations across Britain. In 2015 a new depot was opened in Walsall, West Midlands, with further depots planned to open during the contract. Coal is also conveyed twice per week from South Wales to the cement plant in Hope. Polish competition watchdog approves proposed Gorazdze acquisitions on condition

The Polish Competition and Consumer Protection Office (UOKiK) has approved the acquisition of Duda Kruszywa and Duda Beton by Gorazdze Cement on condition that Gorazdze sells the concrete unit in Olszowa to avoid limiting market competition. Both Duda Kruszywa, which is an aggregate producer, and Duda Beton, a producer of ready-mixed concrete, are currently owned by the Opole-based firm JD.

Martin Marietta sees higher building volumes

Vulcan Materials' first-half turnover rose by 11.8 per cent to US$1526.4m, but EBITDA declined by 31.8 per cent to US$300.2m. The trading profit fell by 44.8 per cent to US$164.59m after the exceptional gain on the disposal of the cement business in the previous year. The Mineral Products Association (MPA) reports that sales volumes of aggregates, ready-mixed concrete and asphalt improved again in the first quarter of 2015. Seasonally-adjusted results, which provide a consistent quarter-by-quarter comparison, indicated that UK crushed rock and sand and gravel sales volumes rose by 2.2 and 3.6 per cent, respectively compared to 4Q14.
