Workers at the Irish Cement production plants in Limerick and Platin are continuing strike action over a dispute surrounding the company’s failure to honour a Labour recommendation relating to the payment of outstanding monies to its employees. CRH's turnover recovered by 5.3% last year to €18,081m and the EBITDA was ahead by 2.5% to €1656m. The trading profit rose by 24.8% to €871m and after other charges, including a net interest charge 5.1% higher at €229m, the running pre-tax profit improved by 12.9% to €743m. CRH and Readymix asked the High Court yesterday to dismiss a claim against them for damages for breaches of competition law on the grounds that the plaintiffs have delayed too long before bringing their case. Ukrainian producer, Podilskyi Tsement, has reported loss of UAH9.67m (US$0.9m) for 2011 but the domestic construction sector is showing signs of a reversal in fortunes.
