CDPQ to invest additional CAD150m in Ciment McInnis

Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) will invest a further CAD150m (US$115m) to Ciment McInnis, despite evaluating a possible divestment in the cement maker over the past year. Lafarge Canada launches new lower-carbon fuel system

Lafarge Canada has launched a lower-carbon fuel system (LCF) system at its Richmond facility, with the aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and become the most carbon-efficient cement plant in the country. Lehigh Hanson has submitted a proposal for a new grinding facility with a marine terminal located next to its existing integrated plant on Tilbury Island, Canada. The 0.65Mta Delta grinding unit would have an operational life of at least 40 years, according to the company. Lafarge Exshaw cement plant (LafargeHolcim group) will receive funding for environmental improvements from a new Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) innovations fund for industry in Alberta, Canada. Caisse de Dépôt et Placement to keep stake in McInnis

Caisse de Dépôt et Placement no longer intends to sell its interest in Ciment McInnis’ cement plant in Port-Daniel, Gaspésie, Canada. "We are convinced of the potential of this company. We are comfortable with this investment. We have work to do, but it's true for all our investments, "said Caisse CEO, Michael Sabia. The Caisse commissioned a consulting firm last year to study several scenarios, including the sale of the CAD1.5bn (US$1.17bn) cement plant.

HeidelbergCement has sold, or agreed the sale of, a number of assets. These include a 50 per cent interest in Ciment Quėbec, land in the Cairo area that used to have a cement works and a minority stake in Syria.  The agreed sale of the activities in the Ukraine include one integrated cement works, one grinding plant, two quarries and two ready-mixed concrete batching plants. In total, these disposals add up to in excess of EUR150m.        

Menzel supplies slipring motor for Canadian customer

Menzel Elektromotoren has supplied a spare motor to a Canadian cement plant. It equipped the plant with a 4.5MW motor from stock and built an extended shaft. Kiln break in McInnis Cement adds 1-2 weeks to production stop

Reports of a major kiln break at McInnis Cement’s Port-Daniel plant have indicated that the plant will see a production stop of 6-7 weeks. However, the company has said that a production stop for maintenance purposes was already scheduled and the break adds only 1-2 weeks to the initial plan. The break occurred on Thursday but the company has refused to confirm the exact nature of the damaged and the expected cost of repairs remains unknown.
