Costa Rica: cement price rises up to 5% at end-2014

The price of cement rose by 4.3-5 per cent at the end of December 2014, depending on supplier, according to the national daily La Nacion. The first to adjust prices, by five per cent upwards, was Cemex on 22 December, followed five days later by Holcim, which increased prices by 4.3 per cent. In 2014, Cemex cement sales in Puerto Rico fell 10.6 per cent YoY to 24,000t, according to Enrique García, president of Cemex Puerto Rico. Holcim and Cemex today announce the successful closure of their series of transactions in Europe. Holcim acquired Cemex’s operations in western Germany and The Netherlands while Cemex took over Holcim Czech Republic with all its subsidiaries in the country. Cemex has taken delivery of a fleet of new cement mixers after a ground-breaking deal with a leading vehicle solutions firm. Cemex announced that it is to restart the expansion of its Tepeaca cement plant in Mexico having put the project on hold in 2008.
