Paraguay set for increased competition14 September 2016, Published under Cement NewsCompetition in the Paraguayan cement market is expected to intensify following the announcement by Italy’s Colacem that it will invest US$220m in new production facilities in Concepción. Environmental impact studies are expected to start very shortly with construction of the 1.5Mta plant scheduled to begin in 1H17. The new plant will help to drive domestic cement prices down as well as increase supply to sufficient levels to enable cement exports from the Latin American country. |

Domicem inaugurates new mill17 March 2016, Published under Cement NewsDomicem, owned by Italy’s Colacem, has inaugurated its new vertical mill at its plant in south-central San Cristobal province of the Dominican Republic. The new mill was supplied by Loesche GmbH and represents an investment of over DOP900m (U$19.66m). It will enable Domicem to reduce power consumption by around 35 per cent while lifting production capacity by over 10 per cent. Colacem looks to expand international presence17 June 2013, Published under Cement NewsColacem, Italy’s third-largest producer, has said it is looking to expand its presence abroad to help offset declines in domestic cement consumption. Director General Giuseppe Colaiacova told reporters at a press conference that the company wants to increase its business outside Italy more due to the market situation at home. European construction outlook revised25 June 2012, Published under Cement NewsThe increasing perception that Greece will default and exit the eurozone together with rising fears of contagion has led Euroconstruct, a group of research institutes and consulting firms, to significantly downgrade its European construction forecasts for this year and next. At a meeting held last week, the group said Europe's construction forecasts for this year and next have been downgraded from -0.3% to -2.1% in 2012 and from +1.8% to +0.4% in 2013. Italcementi reorganises Italian cement operations13 June 2012, Published under Cement NewsItalian cement producer Italcementi SpA announced it is to sell one of its domestic cement plants and close two other factories to reorganise its local production base on the back of lower demand. Italy's leading cement producer said it would sell its Pontassieve factory to local cement company Colacem and will shut down two mid-sized cement-making plants by the third quarter of 2012 in order to reorganise its domestic production capacity.
