Colombian cement consumption rose seven per cent to 1,161,601t in October, according to the latest figures by DANE, the country’s statistics office. Production increased 12.8 per cent YoY from 1,072,942t in October 2014 to 1,210,370t in October 2015. In the Jan-Oct period, domestic cement consumption increased 6.9 per cent to 10.632Mt. Output during the first 10 months has advanced 6.4 per cent to 10.839Mt.

Colombia: Argos 3Q15 profits jump 63% YoY

Cementos Argos has announced a 63 per cent hike in profits for 3Q15. Revenues are up 35 per cent while EBITDA saw a 41 per cent advance. Dispatches were up to a record 3.8Mt, a 15 per cent rise. Colombia’s cement demand expanded by 5.2 per cent YoY in September 2015 to reach 1.143Mt on the back of a strong performance in the contractor and ready-mix sectors, which noted a rise in cement consumption of 25.9 and 13.3 per cent, respectively. ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions has received an order to build a 4300tpd clinker production line for Cementos Argos in Sogamoso, Boyacá province, Colombia. The contract is worth around EUR100m. Colombia’s cement market expanded by 8.6 per cent YoY in August to 1.108Mt on the back of increased demand from construction companies and contractors (+21.4 per cent) and ready-mix firms (+9.7 per cent) which accounted for 6.3 percentage points of the increase, according to national statistics office DANE. Cementos Molins to enter Colombian market

Cementos Molins has signed an agreement to enter the Colombian cement market with local home and construction specialist Corona. The Spanish cement producer plans to build a EUR335m cement works in Antioquia. The plant will have a capacity of 1.35Mta and is scheduled to come online in mid-2018. The production facility will provide 220 direct and 250 indirect jobs during operation and an average of 800 jobs during the construction phase, according to local press reports.
