Grey cement dispatches in Colombia slipped 1.1 per cent YoY to 1.122Mt in December 2022 from 1.135Mt in December 2021, according to the country’s statistics agency, DANE. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico slipped to 9.3Mt in November 2022 when compared with November 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement sales in Puerto Rico fell by 6.8 per cent YoY in 2022 to 14.5m bags of 42.6kg, or 618,247t, according to the Puerto Rican Statistics Institute. It is the first decline since 2019. In 2021 cement sales reached their peak since eight years. However, in June they started to fall and this trend was maintained until December 2022, when they decreased by 3.4 per cent. Cement dispatches in Chile saw a 22.9 per cent YoY drop to 300,800t in November 2022, according to the country’s construction chamber, CChC. In the January-November 2022 period total dispatches reached 3.492Mt, down 13 per cent YoY from 4.015Mt in the year-ago equivalent period.

Peru’s cement dispatches reached 1.092Mt in December 2022, representing a six per cent decline YoY from 1.159Mt, according to the country’s cement assocation, Asocem. Bolivia’s cement sales increased by 5.6 per cent YoY to 3.1Mt in the January-October 2022 period, according to the country’s National Institute of Statistics (INE). Domestic cement sales in Brazil saw a 6.3 per cent decline to 4.467Mt in December 2022 when compared with December 2021 when sales reached 4.766Mt, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Cement deliveries in Switzerland, including Liechtenstein, were down 6.3 per cent YoY to 971,994t in the fourth quarter of 2022 from 1,037,394t in the 4Q21, according to cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association.
