Puerto Rico sees 8-year high in cement sales

Puerto Rican cement sales in 2021 reached 15.6m bags, or 679,300t - a high not seen in eight years, according to the country’s Statistics Institute. This represents a 12.5 per cent YoY advance. Total sales were up by 31.7 per cent from 12.4m bags to 16.3m bags. However, output from the country’s cement plants fell 29.5 percent to 7.4m bags. Production has been on the decline in the last three years, reports business newspaper Sin Comillas.

Vietnam cement sales slip in 2021 but exports surge

Cement sales in Vietnam edged up by two per cent to 6,135,769t in December 2021, according to the Vietnamese cement association, VNCA. When compared with November 2021, the increase was 10 per cent. Of this total, VICEM sales remained stable YoY although MoM they saw a 13 per cent hike to 2,067,491t in December 2021. Iran's annual cement consumption falls by 5.4 per cent in FY2021

Annual cement consumption in Iran reached 59.87Mt in FY2021, reflecting a YoY contraction of 5.4 per cent, according to the Iran Cement Association.   Consumption in December 2021 was reported at 5.03Mt, marginally ahead on a YoY basis by 0.6 per cent.   Domestic clinker and cement production volumes reached 5.67Mt and 5.38Mt in December, respectively. Meanwhile, the country's clinker and cement export volumes were recorded at 0.99Mt and 0.415Mt, respectively.  

Peruvian cement market grows 5% in December

Peru’s cement market expanded by 4.7 per cent YoY in December 2021 to 1.275Mt when compared with the previous year’s December month, when consumption reached 1.218Mt, according to the country’s cement association Asocem. Cement production by Asocem members edged up four per cent from 1.077Mt in December 2020 to 1.122Mt in December 2021. Brazilian cement sales totalled 4.8Mt in 2021, representing a 1.6 per cent increase YoY, according to SNIC, the national cement association. As a result, the industry closes 2021 with full-year domestic sales of 64.3Mt, up 6.4 per cent YoY. Argentina’s cement marked expanded five per cent to 1,025,371t in December 2021 when compared with 976,945t in December 2020, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. However, when compared with the previous month, dispatches were down 10.2 per cent. Cement deliveries in the October-December 2021quarter in Switzerland (including Liechtenstein) reached 1,037,394t, up 3.4 per cent when compared with the 4Q20, when 1,002,614t,were supplied to the market, according to cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. Shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico edged down slightly to 9.9Mt in October 2021 when compared with October 2020, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement dispatches in Chile edged up 0.2 per cent in November 2021 to 390,080t from 389,488t in November 2020, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. In the first 11 months of 2021 deliveries saw a 17 per cent advance YoY to 4,014,856t from 3,42,051t in the 11M20.

Moroccan cement deliveries up 7% in December

Cement deliveries in Morocco increased 6.9 per cent YoY to 1,255,552t in December, according to data from the Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. In December 2020 APC members Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc supplieda total of 1,174,183t of cement. For the full-year 2021, cement dispatches advanced 14.8 per cent YoY from 12.174Mt in 2020 to 13.975Mt in 2021.
