Siam Cement PCL said Wednesday its net profit in the first quarter dropped slightly on year, as lower taxes were offset by weak operating results. In the January-March quarter, the company recorded a net profit of THB9.55 billion, or THB7.95 a share, compared with THB10.00 billion, or THB8.33 a share. The earnings were however reportedly higher than analysts’ expectations.

Prism Cement reported a 114 per cent increase in net profits to Rs 24.39 crore for the quarter ended March 2006 compared with Rs 11.35 crore recorded in the corresponding period last year, reports Business Standard.  The company’s net sales was up 63 per cent to Rs 167.1 crore as against Rs 102.5 crore in the year-ago period. Taiheiyo increases profit forecast, Japan

Taiheiyo Cement Corp said it has raised its forecast  of net profit for the year to last March to Yen 8bn from Yen 5bn. This is because the company expects an increase in extraordinary profit arising from the sale of securities.   The cement maker also lifted its forecast of current profit to Yen 49bn  from Yen 47bn, and of revenue to Yen 900bn from Yen 880bn.  

Sinoma signs Taiwan Cement contract

China’s Sinoma International Engineering said it has signed a series of deals to build cement facilities for Taiwan Cement Corp, with a combined contract value of nearly two billion yuan.  Sinoma said in a statement that under the agreements, it will build two cement production lines in Yingde, a city in the southern province of Guangdong, for a total of Yuan 908m (approx US$100m).
