UltraTech’s Reddipalayam plant reaches a TSR of 25%

UltraTech Cement’s Reddipalayam plant in Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu, now meets 25 per cent of its fuel requirement through the utilisation of waste materials from municipal corporations and industries. The unit has also successfully reduced CO 2 emissions by 2250tpa, according to the company. Bestway Cement commissions solar power plant

Pakistan’s Bestway Cement and Reon Energy Ltd commissioned a 14.3MW captive solar power project at the producer’s unit in Farooqia, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The plant is reportedly part of a 50MW project deal dispersed across Bestway’s four locations in Farooqia, Chakwal, Kallar Kahar and Hattar. The new solar power plant is expected to generate around 78,385MWh annually, which would cut around 1Mt of CO 2 equivalent emissions over the lifetime of the project.

Ghana's EPA shuts down operations at Empire Cement

Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency shut down the operations of Empire Cement on Friday after it began operations without a permit, according to the Ghana News Agency. The company was reportedly provided with an interim permit to manufacture packaging but entered into cement production. Workers at the factory stated that they were not aware that it did not have a permit.

Cemex sets aggressive new 2030 carbon emission targets

Cemex has set a more aggressive carbon reduction target of below 475kg of CO 2 per tonne of clinker produced, approximately a 40 per cent reduction in CO 2 emissions by 2030. The new target is below the two degree global warming scenario of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Caribbean Cement signs MoU for tyre usage

The Jamaican government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Caribbean Cement Co for the usage of end-of-life pneumatic tyres. The company will take used tyres from landfills and convert them into an alternative fuel. Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted that more than 2m used tyres are generated in Jamaica per year and landfills receive approximately 185,700 tyres per year. ACC and Ambuja Cement’s waste management subsidiary, Geocycle India, will be joining Rekart Innovations in removing plastic waste from the Jojari riverbed in Pipar, Jodphur, Rajasthan. Andusia reports that RDF volumes in the UK have started to recover after COVID-19 had restricted its availability.
