Savannah lines up new capacity investments

Savannah Cement, one of Kenya's newest market entrants, is set to build two new plants as it nears exhaustion of its current capacity, managing director, Ronald Ndegwa, said. The company has previously said it is to invest around US$250m for a clinker plant  at its Athi River factory to reduce reliance on imported clinker. India’s Chettinad Cement Corp has received all the required permits for its greenfield project in Andhra Pradesh and expansion in Karnataka. State Window authority clears Bhavya Cements grinding plant proposal

The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) has approved the proposal by Hyderabad-based Bhavya Cements Ltd to set up a 3Mta cement grinding unit in in Dhenkanal district, Odisha state. "Of the 5-6 proposals that came up for the consideration of SLSWCA, we have approved the project of Bhavya Cements Ltd. The land requirement for the project will be assessed," the SLSWCA said.

India-based producer Wonder Cement has placed an order with Gebr Pfeiffer for raw meal and coal mills as part of plans to expand its Tehsil Nimbahera cement works. The mills will supply the new 8500tpd kiln line at the plant situated in Chittorgarh district, India. JR Super Cement is planning a 200tpd cement grinding unit and a coal-based captive power plant in the district of Bagalkot, Karnataka state, India. The project is waiting for environmental clearance. Limak Cimento, part of the Turkish conglomerate Limak Holding, is to enter the Côte d'Ivoire market through a new grinding and packaging plant venture with local partner Afrikbat. PPC Zimbabwe said that preliminary work for a new plant in Harare is complete and construction is scheduled to begin next month. Kenya-based National Cement Co Ltd (NCCL), a member of the Devki Group of Companies, is to receive a KES5.9m (US$70m) cash injection from the International Finance Corp (IFC) to fund its two-phase expansion project.
