Holcim's Indian cement interests, ACC and Ambuja Cements, managed to post an improved first-quarter performance YoY despite a decline in sales, largely due to a writeback of income-tax provisions during the March quarter and an additional depreciation recognised for the March quarter last year. Holcim Nicaragua continues to invest

Holcim Nicaragua is carrying out various works at its Nagarote grinding plant, representing an investment of US$3m this year. The company is currently expanding its cement dispatch centre and its cement storage capacity in addition to the recent installation of new cement grinding equipment. Holcim Nicaragua is the second-largest player in the Central American country behind Cemex Nicaragua. Holcim's Nagorote grinding plant has a capacity of 0.3Mta.

Huaxin Cement sees net profit down 48.32% in 2012

Huaxin Cement Co Ltd, part of the Holcim Group, said net profit last year fell 48.32 per cent to CNY556m (US$91m). It attributed the reduction to severe price competition and its profit contribution to Holcim declined. Huaxin Cement, which is based in the Hubei province, saw operating revenue for 2012 slid 0.93 per cent YoY to CNY12.52bn (US$2bn).

Loesche awarded new contract for ACC project

Loesche, in a consortium with KHD, has been awarded a contract for its vertical roller mill technology to be employed at ACC’s Jamul plant in India. Loecshe will supply its mills type LM 56.3+3 and LM 43.3 D for the new project being undertaken by Holcim group company ACC. Holcim and Heidelberg to operate Cement Australia as a joint venture

Holcim Ltd said Thursday it plans to sell a 25 per cent stake in Cement Australia to HeidelbergCement and operate the company as an equally-controlled joint venture between the two cement majors. Moody’s upgrades Holcim outlook

Moody’s Investors Service has upgraded Holcim’s outlook to stable, ending 15 months on a negative watch. Moody’s said it changed the outlook citing cash generation as cement sales in the US and emerging markets improve, according to reports by Bloomberg. Annual results released by Holcim earlier this week show that cement sales for the Swiss major in 2012 were ahead in spite of lower European volumes and political instability in the Middle East. The Ecuadorian cement market expanded for a second year running as the Ecuadorian Institute of Cement and Concrete (Inecyc) reported a 5.6 per cent rise in dispatches. In 2012, the market absorbed 6.025Mt, an increase of 319,422t when compared with previous year’s figure. Per capita consumption rose from 386kg to 388kg in 2012.
