UltraTech looks to increase presence in eastern India

UltraTech Cement is looking to increase its market share in eastern India to 23 per cent, due to the considerable growth in the region. "There is an excess demand in the eastern region. New cement terminal enters operation in southwest India

India’s Cochin Port Trust launched the port’s fourth cement terminal at Ernakulam Wharf, Kerala, on Monday. The terminal is expected to handle 0.3Mta of cement and has been set up on 1.14ha of land. Project delivers fly ash to plants in northeast India

NTPC Ltd, India's largest power company, has begun transporting fly ash through inland waterways for use in cement manufacture. The pilot project sees the material delivered to Pandu, Assam, from the company's thermal power station in Kahalgaon, Bihar. UltraTech has announced that it received approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to acquire the cement business of Century Textiles and Industries. UltraTech is expected to acquire the cement business through a share swap deal to consolidate its position as a market leader.
