APCMA reports declining local and export dispatches

All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) reports that cement dispatches declined by 9.1 per cent to 5.214Mt in October 2021 against 5.735Mt in the year-ago period. The breakdown indicates that the local share out of this total stands at 4.603Mt, compared to 4.859Mt in October 2020, showing a reduction of 5.3 per cent YoY. Udaipur Cement Works Ltd (UCWL), a subsidiary of JK Lakshmi Cement, has been independently assigned AA/Stable/A1+ ratings to its bank facilities by CRISIL.   AA Rating for its entire long-term existing and proposed borrowings and A1+ for UCWL’s short-term borrowing programme. Punjab government to charge cement companies for groundwater

The government of the Punjab will charge cement producers in the state up to US$0.93/m 3 for ground water used in their cement production.   The Dawn newspaper has reported that the charge will depend on water availability, and be US$0.6/m 3 in water secure areas, US$0.85/m 3 in semi-critical areas and US$0.93/m 3 in critical areas most affected by drought.   The measure aims to encourage rainwater harvesting to preserve water tables. Bangladesh's cement industry has earned export revenue of US$1.59m in the first quarter of FY22 (July – Sept ), compared to US$1.81m in the year-ago period, a fall of 12.2 per cent YoY.
