Cementir hit by hard Nordic winter

Cementir's first-quarter turnover eased by 0.3 per cent to €194.7m and the EBITDA declined by 26.9 per cent to €9.2m as the cement major was hit by a hard Nordic winter weather. Buzzi Unicem said on Thursday it posted an attributable net loss of EUR28.5m in 2012 compared with a profit of EUR27m in 2011, due to declines in Central Europe and a major slowdown of building activity in its domestic market of Italy. Cementir Holding increased turnover in 2012 by 6.4 per cent to €976.2m and the EBITDA was ahead by 11.2 per cent to €138.1m as the margin improved from 13.3 per cent to 14.1 per cent. Italcementi incurs substantial trading losses in Italy and Spain

Italcementi has reported a 2012 trading loss compared to a profit in 2011 as the Italian cement major incurs substantial losses in its domestic market and Spain. Italcementi, the fifth-largest cement producer in the world, has launched a five-year bond of EUR350m at an issue price of EUR99.477 and a coupon of 6.125 per cent, according to reports in La Stampa. Italcementi's group cement shipments in 2012 saw a decline of 6.6 per cent to 45.9Mt with cement volumes being down in Europe and in the Middle East, but improving elsewhere. Cementir Holding saw turnover advance by 4.6 per cent to €976.2m, helped by better prices, and the EBITDA improved by 11.1 per cent to €138.0m. Euro area construction output down 0.4 per cent in November

Construction output in the 17-nation euro area decreased 0.4 per cent in November according to first estimates released by Eurostat. In Germany, Europe’s largest economy, November construction advanced one per cent from a month earlier, while Spain gained 1.2 per cent, according to today’s report. Italcementi announces restructuring plan, Italy

Italy’s leading cement producer Italcementi has approved a 2013-14 reorganisation of its domestic operations to cut annual costs by EUR40m (US$52.2m). The plan, named “Project 2015” forsees a temporary redundancy scheme for up to 665 employees. At present the company employs 2500 staff of whom two-thirds are involved in its productions sites and the rest work at the company's headquarters in Bergamo.
