The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has raised its stake in the equity capital of Holcim (Azerbaijan) OJSC in Azerbaijan (formerly Garadagh Cement Plant) to 20 per cent. A statement from the EBRD read, “The bank will continue to support a major company in Azerbaijan, demonstrating continued support for the country's non-oil sector. In addition, the company is committed to sustainability standards, and will pursue the use of alternative fuels in its operations.” ...

Canada: Lafarge improving environmental impact

Lafarge has completed a CAD20m (US$15.3m) modernisation project at its Exshaw plant in Alberta. The works focussed on improving the plant’s environmental impact but also nearly doubled output from 1.3Mta to 2.2Mta. The retrofit was carried out on the plant’s kiln No. 5, alongside the construction of a new state-of-the-art kiln No. 6. LafargeHolcim has agreed to sell its 65 per cent stake in LafargeHolcim Vietnam to Siam City Cement Company, assuming that the existing minority shareholder does not exercise its pre-emption rights. LafargeHolcim Martres-Tolosane plant installs whole-tyre injection system

LafargeHolcim has installed a whole-tyre injection system at its plant at Martres-Tolosane, near Toulouse, France. The equipment will enable the cement manufacturer to use around 4000 tyres per day as alternative fuel to fire its kiln, representing 15 per cent of the thermal input. Holcim Philippines announced Thursday that its board has appointed Sapna Sood as Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective 1 November 2016.
