Moroccan demand increases 4% in February

Morocco’s cement market expanded by 4.3 per cent in February to 1,115,641t from 1,069,926t in February 2018, according to the country’s Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. The latest data indicates a modest deceleration of market growth when compared with January, when demand increased by 5.3 per cent YoY. In the first two months of 2019, domestic consumption advanced by 4.8 per cent to 2,289,727t from January-February 2018, when demand reached 2,184,783t.

Cement sales in Morocco edged up to 1.17Mt in January 2019 from 1.11Mt in January 2017, according to the country’s cement association, APC. The rise in demand, which follows a market contraction of 3.7 per cent in 2018, has been welcomed with one operator commenting: “The recovery of the cement market is comforting. We hope that this upward trend will continue in the coming months.”

Demand for cement in Morocco has fallen 3.7 per cent YoY in 2018 to 13.287Mt, from 13.791Mt in 2017, according to data from the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism. Cement sales in Morocco increased by 20.1 per cent YoY to 1.043Mt in September 2018 from 0.688Mt in September 2017, according to data from the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. Ciments du Maroc reports 1H turnover down 4%

Ciments du Maroc posted a 1H18 turnover of MAD1.94bn, a 4.2 per cent decrease when compared with the same period in 2016. The sales volume of the company and its subsidiary Indusaha fell 2.6 per cent with domestic demand 2.9 per cent over the period. The gross operating surplus was MAD1bn, up 9.3 per cent as operating performance improved. Operating income rose faster than EBITDA (+12.5 per cent) to MAD739m. Net profit was down 5.1 per cent to MAD573m.

Cement consumption in Morocco declined 28.2 per cent in August 2018 to 881,411Mt when compared with August 2017, when 1,227,932t was sold, according to data of the Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Cement demand in Morocco increased 7.8 per cent YoY to 1,298,479t in July 2018 from 1,204,101t in the previous year, according to data from the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Moroccan cement consumption fell 2.9 per cent in the first half of 2018 to 6.57Mt when compared with 1H17. However, in June alone, domestic demand increased by 13 per cent from 721,846t in June 2017 to 815,842t.
