The plant, which marks an investment of more than EUR500m, is expected to produce 2Mta of net-zero cement by 2029. Building collapses at Holcim Obourg05 June 2017, Published under Cement NewsA collapse of a building near one of the kilns of Holcim’s 1.4Mta Obourg plant in Belgium on 23 May has resulted in the death of one worker and the closure of the plant as an investigation takes place into the causes of the collapse. Emergency services were promptly at the scene but the heavy damage to the structure of the building required further specialist help to locate the at first missing 34 year-old employee, who had worked for Holcim for the past 10 years. Holcim Obourg reduces job losses18 February 2015, Published under Cement NewsThe management of Holcim’s Obourg plant in Belgium and the unions have signed an agreement regarding the restructuring of the works. The majority of the 38 staff that will be laid off will leave the company on early retirement packages and only four will be dismissed. This lowers the initial reduction in staff by 10 after lengthy negotiations took place. The plant will now be operated by around 200 people. |
