DG Khan Cement plans greenfield plant, Pakistan

DG Khan Cement has been given the green light by its Board of Directors (BoD) to set up a greenfield plant in Pakistan, but plans for a Mozambique facility have been withdrawn. The Pakistan-based manufacturer announced it is to set up the new 2.6Mta facility in the Hub District, Lasbela in the Baluchistan Province near Karachi. Pakistan export earnings fall

Pakistan exports have had a disappointing start to the current fiscal, falling 1.98 and 3.46 per cent in terms of quantity and dollar value, respectively on a MoM basis. During July 2013, Pakistan exported 854,477t of cement and earned US US$51.49m compared to 871,764t at US$53.33m in corresponding month last year, according to data from the country’s Bureau of Statistics. DG Khan Cement, part of the Nishat Group and one of Pakistan's largest cement manufacturers, posted a 34 per cent YoY increase in profit for fiscal year 2012-13. Pakistan cement dispatches fell seven per cent YoY in August due to the Eid holidays and wet weather conditions. Sales were down to 2.15Mt in August 2013 compared to 2.6Mt in the same month of the previous year.  Meanwhile, on a sequential basis, August sales fell by 17 per cent compared to July 2013 dispatches of 2.6Mt. Lafarge Pakistan Cement posted earnings growth of 73.6 per cent in the first half of the year. According to a notice sent to the Karachi Stock Exchange the company’s profits jumped to PKR865m with earnings per share (EPS) of PKR0.66 compared to PKR499m (EPS of PKR0.38), in the same period of 2012.

Pakistan reported a decline in dispatches for the first month of fiscal FY13-14 as the pace of construction slowed due to monsoon rains and Ramadan. During July 2013 (the first month of FY13-14), local cement sales fell 10.43 per cent YoY to 1.846Mt compared to 2.060Mt in July 2012. Pakistan export earnings rise in FY12-13

In the fiscal year ending 30 June 2013, Pakistan exported 9.073Mt of cement on revenues of US$577.73m compared to 8.748Mt at US$498.84m in the corresponding period of last year. These latest figures from Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics show that export volumes rose by 3.71 per cent while in dollar value terms, they were 15.81 per cent higher compared to the comparative period a year earlier.
