KHD informed of arbitration award

KHD Humboldt Wedag International said it has been informed of an award from a Portuguese arbitration court, whereby KHD and its subsidiary Humboldt Wedag Inc (USA) are jointly ordered to pay damages to a customer in South America. Ecuador cement sales over the first eight months of 2015 climbed to 3.88Mt, the latest update from local cement association INECYC shows. During August 2015, sales slipped by 1.1 per cent to 498,845t compared to the month before when they reached 504,435t.

Cemex' first-quarter turnover increased by 8.2 per cent to US$3590.7m, while the EBITDA improved by 2.7 per cent to US$535m. The trading profit rose by 11.7 per cent to US$267.7m. Dangote Cement plc is planning to build a presence in three South American countries, according to Nigeria’s economic newspaper Business Day, quoting Devakumar Edwin, Dangote’s CEO. Cimpor's underlying first half turnover improved by 19.6 per cent to EUR1299.8m as the company is boosted by its new South America operations but Portuguese losses more than double. Cemex reported a slight decline in turnover for the first half of 2013, with EBITDA also down marginally but the trading profit improved by double digits. While volumes were down in the first six months, the group sees full year sales edging ahead with the USA expected to show the best advance. Cement sales by Paraguay’s state cement company INC increased by 21 per cent to 4.8m bags in June when compared with the same month last year. January cement sales peaked at 1,145,623 bags but notably dropped to 699,330 the following month – a trend which continued in March when INC delivered 577,623.
