Siam Cement Group (SCG) of Thailand plans to boost exports of its Elephant brand cement to Myanmar and expand its distribution network in the Southeast Asian country, according to an official of the company’s local subsidiary. Siam City Cement Plc reported a drop in net profit for the third quarter and the first nine months due to weak prices even though sales have surged. Third-quarter net profit fell 8.8% YoY to THB792m (US$25.7m), while revenue grew 7.7% to THB6.59bn. Cement consumption this year is on track to surpass the target of 8-10% thanks to continued government investment in mass transit projects, says the Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA). Siam Cement Group's cement business posted a 29 per cent increase in revenue to THB17.7bn (US$577.6m) in the third quarter of 2012, attributable to a higher domestic sales volume as well as consolidation of the recently acquired ready-mixed concrete business in Indonesia. The cement business also saw a 33 per cent rise in net profit to THB2.45bn. Building materials witnessed 18 per cent growth in revenue to THB10.5bn, thanks to continued domestic market growth momentum.
