ENCI halts clinker production

ENCI, based in The Netherlands, has shut down its kiln after 91 years of operation. The event, which was carried out in the night of 29 March 2019, was low-key. The plant’s limestone quarry in Sint-Pietersberg, South Limburg, will now be a home to rare insects. Until 2018 the cement producer quarried limestone for the works’ kiln line. However, on 1 January 2020, the 120h site will pass to the management of Natuurmonumenten.

LafargeHolcim wins Dutch Afsluitdijk contract

LafargeHolcim has been awarded with a key contract in the US$550m renovation of the Afsluitdijk, the Dutch iconic sea defense structure. Taiwan Cement to invest US$1.1bn in new joint venture

Taiwan Cement announced it will spend US$1.1bn to create a joint venture with Turkey’s OYAK in The Netherlands, via a newly-created subsidiary, Dutch TCC Holdings. Taiwan Cement will hold 40 per cent of shares in the joint venture with OYAK holding 60 per cent. Through the JV, Taiwan Cement aims to increase its visibility in the European market at a time when the Chinese market is cooling.

Cement consumption in The Netherlands to hit 5Mt mark in 2018

Cement demand in The Netherlands is expected to rise from just under 4.5Mt in 2017 to 5Mt in 2018, according to the Cement and Beton Centrum. Some 50-55 per cent of cement is used by the concrete industry to supply to construction sites while 35-40 per cent of total cement sales are to the concrete products sector.

JT Cement orders 8000dwt cement carrier

Norway’s JT Cement AS has ordered a pneumatic cement carrier from Netherlands-based Ferus Smit, according to Erik Thun AB. The ship will be the sister vessel of M/V Greenland and is scheduled for delivery in July 2019. "The vessel will be an improved version of Greenland but with a somewhat larger cargo carrying capacity at 8000dwt. Cebo Marine's ship undergoes upgrade in capacity

Cebo Marine’s cement carrier, 'Lelie C', has undergone maintenance works and an upgrade to its capacity, according to The Motorship. Netherlands-based Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf completed the upgrade which included installing eight new cement silos, each with a 40m 3 capacity. Bangladesh’s cement sector attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) of US$31.3m in 2015, according to a Bangladesh Central Bank report. This figure is up 41.5 per cent from that of 2014.
