Gulf Cement Co sees fall in profit in 2018

UAE-based Gulf Cement Co reported revenues of AED475.707m (US$129.5m) in 2018, according to the company’s preliminary results. This represents an 18.4 per cent drop from AED583.203m the previous year. The company’s net operating profit of AED24.360m in 2017 declined to a loss of AED49.072m in 2018 while net profit fell from AED40.613m to a loss of AED32.99m over the same period.

Arkan sells Emirates cement plant

UAE-based Arkan Building Materials has announced the sale of its Emirates cement plant for AED50m (US$13.6m). The company also noted the permanent shutdown of Emirates Cement Co. Arkan has already received AED21.9m of the total amount, recognised in its 2018 financials as other income. The company’s main operations are based at its separate 4.5Mta facility in Al Ain.

RAK Cements profit falls to AED13m

Ras Al Khaimah Co for White Cement and Construction Materials has posted a 57 per cent drop in net profit to AED13m (US$3.5m) in 2018. The company’s revenues fell from AED767.92m in 2017 to AED755.22m one year later while total assets declined to AED1.03bn in 2018 versus AED1.102bn the previous year.

Pioneer Cement to begin RDF usage

UAE-based Pioneer Cement, a subsidiary of Raysut Cement, has signed an agreement with Emirates RDF that will lead to the use of fuel derived from household waste in its production plant. Iranian province records export increase

Iran’s southern province of Hormozgan reported a 40 per cent increase in clinker and cement exports to 400,000t during the eight-month period between 21 March-21 November 2018, according to Masoumeh Mousavi of the country’s Mine and Trade Department. Products from the area were exported to Oman, UAE, Tanzania and South Africa.

Sharjah Cement records decreasing sales

UAE-based Sharjah Cement has announced an 82.3 per cent fall in net profit for the 3Q18, dropping to AED2.2m (US$599,046) from AED12.4m a year ago. The company has attributed the results to a decline in income from investments and sales. Sales decreased 9.9 per cent to AED131.3m from AED145.7m in the 3Q17. In the first nine months of 2018, Sharjah’s profit was down 67 per cent at AED14.3m compared to AED43.6m in the year-ago period.

Arkan's 9M18 results are stable at AED676.9m

Arkan Building Materials Company (ABMC) reported that it achieved a net revenue of AED676.9m (US$184.3m) in 9M18 compared to AED677.6m during the 9M17. UAE to construct MSW plant for alternative fuel production

The UAE will soon start construction and operation of a municipal solid waste treatment (MSW) plant and alternative fuel production plant in the northern emirate of Umm Al Qaiwain.
