Shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico for the four months to the end of April 2014 reached 23.1Mt, up by about six per cent YoY, latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows. Total shipments of blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in 2013 including imports reached 82Mt, preliminary data from the USGS show. Domestic shipments were 75.624Mt while imports amounted to 6.383Mt. In December 2013, total shipments were 5.146Mt, comprising 4.756Mt of domestic deliveries and 390,188t of imports.

Building materials major Boral has announced a further round of job cuts, predominantly across its Australian operations, following a 100-day review of the company by its chief executive Mike Kane .
