July cement shipments advance 9% in USA and Puerto Rico

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico in July increased by 9.4 per cent YoY to 9.3Mt, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Deliveries for the first seven months of 2017 rose by 3.8 per cent to 55.2Mt. Cemex USA has acquired a limestone quarry at Chico, Texas, 45 miles from Fort Worth. The 122ha site is believed to have a further 25 years of supply and the acquisition will bring the number of Texan quarries up to five. Cemex USA also has a cement works and 30 concrete batching plants in the state.   

Siwertell secures order from South Texas Cement

Siwertell, part of Sweden’s Bruks Siwertell Group, has received an order from US-based GCCM Holdings LCC to supply a high capacity ship unloader for South Texas Cement’s terminal in Corpus Christi, Texas. Cementos Argos announced it was awarded Energy Star certification by the US Environment Protection Agency for the third-consecutive year. The certification was awarded as a result of the company’s performance in terms of energy use at its Harleyville (SC), Newberry (FL) and Roberta (AL). Cemex USA acquires Texas quarry

Cemex USA has purchased a limestone quarry in Chico, 45 miles northwest of Fort Worth in Texas, from Blue Star Materials II. Cemex will use the reserves which are expected to last another 25 years to supply aggregates for roads, bridges, commercial buildings, housing and other building projects in the state of Texas. Cementos Argos released its 2Q18 results this week with revenues up by 1.4 per cent at COP2.184trn (US$726bn) from COP2.154trn in 2Q17. The 1H18 revenue amounted to COP4.092trn, down from COP4.231trn in 1H17, a fall of 3.3 per cent. Cemex's Davenport facility in Iowa, USA, has remained empty since the plant was closed in 2010.
