Steel producer starts blastfurnace slag supply to French cement plant

A French cement plant has taken a first order for 50,000t of blastfurnace slag from Liberty Galați of Romania. The slag will be converted into low-carbon cement to lower the cement producer's carbon footprint. 1H cement demand in Spain sees 17% rise

Cement consumption in Spain increased 17.3 per cent YoY to 7,309,916t in the first half of 2021, according to Spanish cement association, Oficemen. When compared with the 1H19 demand dipped 1.4 per cent. The positive trend in demand has been due to high sales in June 2021, which registered the highest volume since June 2011. Swiss cement dispatches edge up 3% in 2Q21

Swiss cement producers saw a 2.6 per cent YoY rise in deliveries to 1,168,331t in the second quarter of 2021, according to cemsuisse, the country’s cement association. The Swedish Supreme Land and Environmental Court has rejected Cementa's application to renew its permit to mine limestone at the company’s existing quarries in Slite, Gotland.
