Buzzi Unicem reports on sustainability achievements

Buzzi Unicem has lowered its specific gross scope 1 CO 2 emissions from 689kg/t cementitious product in 2021 to 664kg/t in 2022, according to its 2022 Sustainability Report. This marks a 3.6 per cent reduction YoY.  Compared to 2020, scope 1 CO 2 emissions are down 4.3 per cent. Specific thermal consumption has fallen from 4138MJ/t clinker in 2020 to 4106MJ/t in 2021 and 4084MJ/t in 2022. Cem'In'EU launches FusioVrac cement

Cem'In'EU 's Rhône cement plant, in Portes-lès-Valence, has launched FusioVrac cement with a CO 2 footprint 18 per cent less than conventional cement.   FusioVrac is a low-carbon cement that contains less clinker, which is partly replaced by pozzolan, a natural substitute from volcanic rocks in the nearby region. Trials on graphene-enhanced green cement are due to begin in June this year, lead by a consortium including First Graphene Ltd, Breedon Cement Ltd , Morgan Sindall Construction and The University of Manchester. International engineering and construction firm Laing O’Rourke has announced that low-carbon concrete is now standard on all its UK projects. The new mandate, which applies to all UK projects that begin main construction on or after 1 April 2023, will result in a significant reduction in the company’s scope 3 carbon emissions.
