Cemex's Lloseta cement plant to become an aggregates facility

Cemex's closed cement plant in Lloseta, in Mallorca, Spain, has been passed by the Balearic Environment Commission to be adapted into an aggregates plant. Proposals for the site had been invited in May 2019, when the government made the site a Strategic Industrial Project. Romania's competition authority is to analyse LafargeHolcim's acquisition of Romanian precast concrete producer Somaco. Cemex USA has purchased a limestone quarry in Chico, 45 miles northwest of Fort Worth in Texas, from Blue Star Materials II. Cemex will use the reserves which are expected to last another 25 years to supply aggregates for roads, bridges, commercial buildings, housing and other building projects in the state of Texas. Cemex UK has ordered its first new aggregates dredger in 20 years. The vessel will be built at the Galati yard of Damen, Romania, and is to be delivered towards the end of 2019. It will be the first in a new generation of dredgers with improved environmental standards and a 15 per cent increase in capacity.
