Egyptian Cement Company (ECC) booked a net profit of 592.1 mln Egyptian pounds (US$103.2 mln/80.1 mln euro) for the first half of 2006 compared to 435.3 mln pounds (US$75.8 mln/58.9 mln euro) in the year-earlier period, it was reported on September 6, 2006.     ECC was listed on the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchanges (CASE) on March 18, 2002 and is traded under the ECEM.CA symbol on the Unofficial Schedule 2 of the exchange. Shares in Cimpor rose 2.2 percent on Wednesday to their highest level since May, boosted by the cement maker’s current investor road show and a recent research report, traders said. Steppe Cement Ltd reported a ’strong improvement’ in half-year figures at its core operating subsidiary, Central Asia Cement JSC. AIM-listed Steppe was restructured earlier this year, making group-wide results comparisons invalid, it said. Italcementi H1 sales rise 21.4% on higher volumes, prices

Italcementi SpA said that first half sales rose 21.4 per cent to EUR2.910bn boosted by an increase in volumes and a positive price trend in all its markets. The company said that sales of cement and clinker rose 21.7 per cent to 31.9Mt, aggregates rose 6.0 per cent to 29.5Mt and ready-mixed concrete rose 2.2 per cent to 10.8 per cent. ACC gets approval for merger

Associated Cement Companies Ltd today said it has received approval from the Bombay High Court for the merger of Tarmac (India) Ltd with itself.  The company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that the scheme of amalgamation was approved by the High Court and all requisite formalities had been completed.  The scheme is effective from August 28, 2006 and the appointed date under the scheme is January 1, 2006, ACC added.

Holcim Romania expects an increase of over 30 per cent year-on-year in its concrete sales in the capital Bucharest in 2006, due to the great demand as a result of a large number of ongoing real estate projects, the company’s Bucharest regional director for concrete and aggregates, Catalin Popescu, said on September 1, 2006.
