Steppe Cement Limited confirms that Keith Robert Newman will join its board of directors effective from today as a non-executive. Mr Newman is 56 years of age and has a background as a professional engineer including 30 years experience in director and general manager roles in industry sectors including construction materials.

O’Mahony to lead CRH for two more years

CRH chief executive Liam O’Mahony is to stay in his post for at least two more years, shareholders were told at the annual general meeting of the group yesterday. Chairman Pat Molloy pointed out that while normal practice had seen previous chief executives retire when they reached the age of 60, "there was not a rigid policy in this regard." Mr O’Mahony has been at the helm of the company for six years and has agreed to stay on in the role until the middle of 2008.

CCC settles half of claims received

Caribbean Cement Company says to date it has resolved up to 50 per cent of the claims for compensation issued by customers. Speaking on RJR’s Hotline programme on Tuesday, General Manager of Caribbean Cement, Anthony Hanes, said the company received over 150 claims for faulty cement purchased from the company. He says those persons have either been compensated or have made agreements with the company for reimbursement.

Holcim Indonesia reports higher profits

St Lawrence Cement Group has recorded sales of US$178.1m for the first quarter of 2006 compared with US$140.3m for the same period last year, an increase of 26.9 per cent. Cementos Bío Bío saw net profits jump 20.1 per cent to 7.13bn pesos (US$13.9m) in the first quarter compared to 1Q05, while Cemento Polpaico and Grupo Melón’s profits grew 12.8 per cent and 0.79 per cent, respectively, to 6.14bn pesos and 8.31bn pesos.    Polpaico saw revenue climb 3.57 per cent to 36.3bn pesos and operating profit edge up 1.62 per cent to 7.22bn pesos; while Melón’s revenue grew 12.2 per cent to 44.6bn pesos and operating profit rose 12.5 per cent to 9.23bn pesos.     In ...

Indonesia’s second-largest cement maker, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk , posted a 10.1 per cent increase in first-quarter net profit, thanks to strong cement sales and foreign exchange gains.
