Tokyo Cement (Lanka) Plc increases profits by 163% in FY2Q21

Tokyo Cement (Lanka) Plc reported earnings of LKR2.12bn (US$11.49m) for the FY2Q21 on revenues of LKR11.4bn. Profits and revenues were up 163 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively, compared to the July-September period in 2019. Domestic cement production in August 2020 rose by 17.4 per cent to 392,000t compared to 334,000t in August 2019, reports the Daily Mirror. The cumulative cement production from January to August 2020 rose by six per cent to 2.448Mt, up from 2.31Mt in 1H19.

COVID-19 closes WACEM's Tabligbo plant

The West African Cement plant (WACEM) has shut down its grinding plant in Togo for two weeks. The 1.8Mta Tabligbo plant has closed to halt the spread of COVID-19. India’s Ramco Cements has reported a 40 per cent YoY increase in net profit to INR2.36bn (US$31.69m) for the second quarter of the FY20-21. In the 3Q20 FLSmidth’s revenue amounted to DKK3834m (US$4181m) compared to DKK4736m in the 3Q19, down 19 per cent. Organic revenue decreased by 12 per cent, comprising a one per cent increase in mining and a 33 per cent decline in cement. Peru's Cementos Pacasmayo saw its sales volume of cement, concrete and precast rise 14.2 per cent YoY to 819,700t in the third quarter of 2020, reaching historical record levels, mainly due to a sharp recovery in sales of cement. Pakistan’s Power Cement saw its net sales surge 458.9 per cent YoY in the quarter ending 30 September 2020, rising to PKR3.26bn (US$20.36m) from PKR583m. However, the company has also reported a loss after tax of PKR170.78m against a PKR7.9m profit in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Lafarge Africa sees revenue increase 10%

Lafarge Africa has reported a 10.3 per cent YoY increase in revenue to NGN179.88bn (US$464.57m) for the 9M20, against NGN163.1m in the year-ago period. Its profit after tax from continuing operations also surged 37.5 per cent YoY to NGN28.2bn from NGN20.5bn. In the third quarter of the year, revenue advanced 31.4 per cent to NGN59.34bn from NGN45.17bn in the 3Q20. EAPCC reports net loss for FY19-20

Kenya-based East African Portland Cement Co (EAPCC) has reported a net loss of KES2.77bn (US$25.46m) for the year ending 30 June 2020, an improvement compared to the KES3.36bn loss in the previous fiscal year. Cementos Molins has announced its 9M20 results, with net profits reaching EUR62m, 12 per cent less than the same period last year. In comparable terms of exchange rates and hyperinflation adjustment, net profits to September grew by 13 per cent. Saudi Cement saw its revenue advance 24.7 per cent YoY to SAR387m (US$103m) in the 3Q20, supported by a 19.8 per cent growth in cement volumes to 1.6Mt.Gross profits and operating income increased by 23.8 per cent YoY and 22.8 per cent YoY, respectively.
